In the first weekend in May 2014, Rosita McKenzie, Jan Bölsche and I ran two Introduction to Blind Photography Workshops in Dublin for the Phizzfest Phibsborough Community Art Festival.
Jan and Rosita shared their unique photographic techniques and skills in workshops specifically designed to meet the needs of each target group – fully sighted and partially/non-sighted. In practical photography sessions participants discovered alternative approaches to image making both conceptually and practically through experimenting with digital camera equipment in new and innovative ways, using the village of Phibsborough and the Phizzfest itself as a source of inspiration. We began each day with an introduction to Jan and Rosita’s distinct artistic practices then moved onto exploring portrait photography in the Kinane Photography Studio. The afternoon session saw us get out and about to the streets of Phibsborough to explore different techniques in urban and landscape photography.
