The curatorial development Framework series organised by independent curator Kirsteen MacDonald concluded the last weekend in September with the Framework Forum on Saturday and a workshop run by independent Berlin based curator Ellen Blumenstein. The Forum was an opportunity for the curators involved in previous Framework workshops to present their own projects and discuss issues and ideas relevant to their practice. I presented the collaborative project Through the Looking Glass Dimly that I am organising with Australian blind photographer Andrew Follows and Edinburgh based blind artist Rosita McKenzie and found it extremely useful to work through some of the stumbling blocks and get feedback on the concept of the project. Framework has been most useful in providing the time and space to reflect on my curatorial projects, both past and present, and for helping answer some of the basic questions in curating – why am I doing this? who am I doing this for? what is the best way to do this?
